Your take on the Country Music industry?

What is your take on the current country music industry? Now we are seeing more and more country music related shows on TV when a decade ago it wasn't even a thought. It seems like Country Music is becoming more main stream. What I like most about country music is you can not fake what you are singing, it comes from your soul. All these other Genres of Music I think have lost their way and don't have a real meaning behind the song. I do like to goto the clubs and dance to the music don't get me wrong, but its just for entertainment. At 27 I listen to the old tracks of Billy Joel and Elton John etc and their music is real because they are singing about their life experience. Now you got the tweker and Bieber have not live a day in the real world singing about anything just to sell a record. I think Country is the only thing that has stayed true to the roots, and it is something that can never be faked.

      The Country Music Industry has been on a long trend of great success.  We don't hear the phrase 'cross over' anymore which shows just how far it's come.  Today's country music scene and sound includes most all genres of music, i.e., blues, jazz, rock, folk, etc.  Seems like the current identity of country music is hardly recognizable as true or real country music as we know it to be.

    Today, it seems like country music has become a blended mix of all types of music, distinguished mostly by the lyrics and/or the production of it...and that's if we're lucky.  Sometimes we have to assume it's country and hope we've made an accurate, educated guess.  Don't get me wrong...some of the best country music comes from blues and Willie Nelson, for example.  But no one has to remind me when I hear the song,  You Were Always on My Mind, that it is indeed a country song.

       I ask ... where is the heart of country music today?  And, how do we know that what we are listening to is really 'country'?  With so many artificially enhanced flavors served up for us to choose from, most likely, we have not been getting our true country music needs met.    If we have to think..or we have to be told that it's a country song or it's a country band...well, I for one have had my doubts for quite some time now.   Like most folks, I don't believe everything I hear.  But it's a good bet that when I hear a true blue eyes crying in the rain song, I know it's the real deal.  And that's what I'm talking about.   

       Where have all the writers gone?  It's been a long time passing friends.   And I'm sure missing you.  I'm a songwriter...I've got some good stuff.  Would love to pass it on to Kellie Pickler or someone like her.  All my songs are copyrighted...so if anyone is interested would love to hear from you Nashville.  I sang two of my songs at the Grande Ole Opry in 1985.  Vince Gill was one of our judges...and Sweethearts of the Rodeo won the contest.  
  
        Charlie McCoy of Hee Haw was the house conductor then and loved my music and offered me a writing job on the spot.  I didn't move to Nashville, but I continued singing for many years after, mostly jazz.  See...I love all styles of music.  But I really appreciate real country music when I hear it.

 So darlins...hope you aren't too angry with my opinion...cause I admire all artists, songwriters, and musicians in this fantastic industry.  I'm just hoping that some real good country music makes a comeback, and soon.  That's all!

Wow great post Sodarlin! You have put a lot of thought into it. I know alot of people are getting on Taylor Swift saying she is not really a country music artist anymore. I think Taylor is a hard worker and has good roots, but she is probably being lead down the wrong direction by the main stream music industry. If you have any links to any of your songs feel free to share them. I have been busy at the Speedway, but I check back from time to time.

I mentioned that Jay Farrar being a champion of roots country,after a very revolutionary album with his band Son Volt 'Okemah and the melody of riot';Jay with that SV band of his returned to similar roots of vintage album 'Trace' with'American central dust'& most recently 'Honky Tonk'
Jay Farrar ain't no CMA typo artist he returned to his main influences Guthrie and Young after having pioneered the altcountry sound with Wilco guy Jeff Tweedy that band was Uncle Tupelo.
